Field and on-site opportunities

Across our waste and water network, we operate and maintain:

  • 350 waste treatment sites, from Europe’s largest site at Beckton to a small station in someone’s back garden!
  • 100 water treatment works
  • 35,000 km of pipe network
  • Over 110,000 km of sewers and over 6,000 pumping stations.

We treat 2,700 billion litres of water a day – that’s the equivalent of 1,080 Olympic swimming pools. We’ve also committed to enhancing biodiversity at 253 of our most important sites for nature.

This team works across our patch fixing leaks, installing new pipes, renewing water mains, upgrading networks and protecting our environment.

Office-based and hybrid opportunities

Our main sites include Clearwater Court Head Office in Reading, which is home to our corporate teams like Finance, HR, Communications, Environment, Sustainability, Strategy & Regulation and IT. Kemble Court in Reading’s Green Park business centre is our Operations Management Centre and brings together our key operation functions under one roof. Depending on the role, most former ‘office’ roles are now hybrid roles, spread across home and office working.

Laboratory opportunities

Our scientists either work at our lab at Spencer House just outside Reading, or remotely. They give our regulators the assurance that we’re fully compliant, operating within our agreed licences and meeting our regulatory targets with all waste and clean water samples collected.

Through our apprenticeships, graduate scheme, traineeships and work experience programme, we’re opening up opportunities for as many of you as possible.

We have big challenges ahead and our graduates and apprentices will play a pivotal role in helping us tackle these head on. Real purpose, real support, real opportunities – it’s your journey and it begins at Thames Water.
